Might As Well... Enjoy The Stage... ð Or Find A Bigger Better One... Note : A F F is deleting words in the t.ext. Ils sont toutes, fuckÃĐe. Please be patient. Last Saturday, I stood under a huge, old, maple tree and wiped the sweat, off my brow. I was about to watch a band, play in a small park... down by the marina. The sun hadn't set yet. It was still hot and the air was thick. Even the breeze... coming in off the lake... wasn't helping much. I impatiently, looked at my watch. "If the music doesn't start soon , I'm heading, for a cooler place, to hang out," I thought to myself. I'm glad, I waited. As a musician, I'll listen to music, with a critical ear. But... I'm also, extremely supportive, of young talent, that I see. It took me all, of about a minute - after the band started to play - to figure something out. That stage... was WAY too small... for them.  Their complex vocals blended, perfectly with the lead and rhythm guitars. Their original tunes drifted seamlessly, between octaves and hauntingly beautiful chord progressions ; aided by the incredible, imagination of the keyboardist. And everything ... was held tightly, in place, with the solid backbone, of a (heart numbing) bass guitarist and... a fucking 'kick ass' drummer.  I hung around and listened to the band's set. Afterwards, I spoke with some of the band guys... and girl, as they packed up. Turns out, somebody's dad, was on the town's entertainment committee and they called in a favour. They (the band), didn't really give a shit. The crowd and the venue wasn't theirs . But heck... the money was. They smiled, as I commiserated with them and wished them well. Yeah... sometimes the stage, is just too small. Take this one... for instance. It's beat up and broken and fucked up, all over. Hardly anyone pays attention, to anything... except to the sound... of their own voice. But... you make do and smile... and just take it all in. It's just a place, to practise and blow off some steam; while perfecting, a point of view. Now... if they, only paid you something. Nope. Ya gotta go, somewhere else... for that. ....................................... Note : A F F is deleting words in the t.ext. People love to complain about all the problems with this site and unwanted messages and comments, yet they continue to linger. Is there no alternative or does it just become too comfortable and it keeps them from going âout thereâ in the real world?

I think you hit the nail on the head.....life is all about adaptability. We endure, adjust, adapt or find an alternative. Yeah ..this stage is wayyyyy to small for some.....and just right for others. One of the goals in life is to find a workable situation or to somehow make it a workable situation. As you said...might as well enjoy the stage. Look....you waited and enjoyed a wonderful show on your stage. Kudos ~~

As a fellow musician, I completely understand being critical of every note I hear. Sounds like a fun night! I love it when I am pleasantly surprised!! Have a great day, and be nice to one another.

About 35 yrs ago, when I lived in Dallas, somebody got the great idea of setting up a small stage in the middle of a pasture and running power out there. They brought in lots of "has-been" bands like Jim Dandy, Pat Travers, etc. These small outdoor concerts were some of the best I've ever seen.

I like your analogy. Sometimes all we need is a little distraction from all the âstuffâ in life. So, here, enjoy the less than perfect music then step over the vitriol.

I love that you went and chatted with the band, most wouldn't but its the sort of thing I do. You get what you put in , is how i feel. If I'm not happy with something and it is not important I just move on. My grandmother taught me'Treat others as you want to be treated" Its how I live and what I taught my kids. Its worked so far  An orgasm a day , makes you so much happier at work and play

I love being unexpectedly surprised by a group. It's been happening a lot since I started volunteering for a music venue - I go in just to work tickets or concessions or whatever; check out the group and voila! A new band to follow. It's much less frequent that I have that experience with a blog. But I have to admit that I don't do much browsing any more...I just try to keep up with the folks on my watch list.

I've played in bands for most of my life. I know what it's like when you're playing at the wrong venue with the wrong crowd. We shared a few laughs... and it's always fun to talk 'shop' with a fellow musician. You would have done the same... no ? I always like to speak with performers and find out where their heads are at. Here is a surprise: Many Many Many moons ago I was a part of a jug band that went to coffee houses. My specialty was the songs and kazoo!! My favorite was "Washington At Valley Forge". If the audience didnt love us back- well we had to adjust our tune or move on LOL. We lasted three years until college grabbed our notes and played a new tune (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group
