Concur. As with many of Life's pursuits, there is often an obsessive focus in working out on the *finish line* (outsized muscles or stellar Strava rankings) and no authentic enjoyment of the *journey*.

While it would be dissembling to not acknowledge that *results* contribute to my motivation, I enjoy my time in gym or out on the trails and, indeed, encourage friends and lovers to join me. When I was competing, I felt obliged to push my training up to the top of my priorities. However, now that it is about *getting off the couch* and moving to ensure that I live long and prosper, it is (happily) now a habit rather than a compulsion.

There is also no reason that you cannot *look good* and still enjoy a regular diet with occasional indulgences. As you point out, engaging in a stimulating conversation while pouring a well-decanted wine is far more arousing than contrived muscle-flexing.

Bonuses are pretty nice. Sandwiches, too.

You mean like a...bonus sandwich? The universe is 10 times just thinking about it.

I'm not willing to sacrifice good food for a couple of percentage points of body fat. Probably why that elusive six pack will always be elusive to me.

As was pointed out, all things in moderation. It is possible to be fit and a person of substance. I work at both. I like to think I'm at least moderately successful at each.

LOL. Well, you've been yummy from day 1.

I treat my workouts like standing meetings and put them into my calender. That way they are a regular part of day. I tell people I'm multi-tasking as it is the mental health part of the day as well.

Completely get that. Sometime I have schedule lunch otherwise it gets invaded with appointments.
