Confidence vs Cockiness

People often confuse confidence with cockiness, but the couldn’t be more different.
Confidence is quiet and a natural expression of ability, expertise, and self-regard.
Cocky and conceited people tend t.o take a position and totally disregard differing opinions or of view. They know they're right--and they want (actually, they need ) you know it, too.
Confident people don't mind being proved wrong. They feel finding out what is right is a lot more important than being right. And when they're wrong, they're secure enough to back down graciously.
Confident people don't need the glory; they know what they've achieved.
Confident people don't need approval from others because their validation comes from within.
Confident people aren't afraid t.o ask for help.
Confident people aren't afraid t.o sometimes look silly and being in situations where they aren't at their best.
People envy confidence but often despise cockiness.

Ode to Older People

Older people are easy spot at sporting events. During the playing of the National Anthem, they remove their caps, stand proudly at attention and sing loudly without embarrassment. They know the words and believe them.
Older people remember the Great Depression, World War II, Pearl Harbour, Normandy and ration stamps.
If you bump into an older person on the sidewalk, they will apologize first.
If you pass an older person on the street, a man will tip his hat in greeting a lady and will say, "Ladies first".
Older people will hold the door open for others to enter first and wait till everyone else has passed through.
Older people get embarrassed when others curse in front of women and and dislike that language used on television or in movies.
Older people are proud to state their age and make sure they receive their 'senior discounts'.
Older people dress for comfort and don't worry about fashion trends.
Older people seldom brag unless it's about their or grandchildren.
Older people should be valued, appreciated and taken care of whenever they need a hand.

What I really want for Christmas

Each year, my ask, "Mom, what do you want for Christmas?"
It's not trinkets or toasters or other assorted 'things'. I usually say, 'Nothing'. But here's what I really want:
I want them to keep coming around. I want them to ask m.e questions. I want them to ask m.e for my advice. I want them to tell m.e their problems no matter how big or small. I want them to tell m.e about their worries, their dreams and their hopes. I want them to share laughter with m.e. To laugh with m.e or laugh at m.e. I want them to be kind to one another and to those around them. I want them to spend their funds making a better life for themselves. I want to see them happy and healthy.
They have been giving to m.e throughout the year. What more could I possibly want except for it to continue?

Imagine

Imagine, it was forty years ago today, John Lennon was assassinated outside the Dakota, his New York apartment building.
On that December Monday evening in 1980, long before the internet or cell phones, the world first learned of this tragedy from Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football.
Imagine..John has been gone for the same number of years as he lived. This year he would have turned eighty.
Here are some of John's quotes: "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." "All we are saying is give peace a chance..." "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination." "God is a concept by which we measure our pain." "There's nothing you can know that isn't known." "The more I see the less I know for sure." "You either get tired fighting for peace, or you die."
Whenever I hear Imagine , it brings tears to my eyes. I am reminded of that night and think of how much has changed and how much remains the same.
Imagine Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No Hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people livin' for today Ah, ah, ah-ah
Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothin' to or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people livin' life in peace Yoo, hoo, oo-oo
You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be one
Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharin' all the world Yoo, hoo, oo-oo
You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will live as one

While I can still… See and hear, Walk and talk, Smell and taste, Feel and touch, Laugh and smile. I will keep on going.
While I can still… Dream and hope, Forgive and let go, Believe and trust, Love and care, I will keep on going.
While I can still... Give thanks and appreciate, Find peace and joy, Keep the faith, I will keep on going.
While I can still… Breathe the ‘g.i.f.t.’ of life, I will keep on going, Till my journey ends.

Today Is World Aids Day

In the 1980s, an epidemic began. Those who contracted the disease suffered from a compromised immune system, leaving them susceptible t.o cancer, pneumonia, and more life-threatening conditions. The disease, known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
Despite not having a cure for HIV, there are plenty of treatments that keep symptoms in check and can help sufferers. However, there are still a lot of misconceptions about HIV sufferers.
December 1st is World AIDS Day, and it's used t.o help dispel misinformation about HIV and AIDS. Below are several HIV-related myths and their corresponding contradictory facts:
MYTH: To stop the spread of HIV, people simply need to give up promiscuous sex and drug use. TRUTH: Sex and drug use are not the only ways that HIV can be contracted. There are five fluids that carry the virus: blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids and breast milk. That is why sharing needles during intravenous drug use and having unprotected sex can spread HIV. To protect yourself, avoid these fluids when interacting with strangers.
MYTH: HIV is the same as AIDS. TRUTH: Though HIV causes AIDS, an HIV-positive individual does not necessarily have AIDS. Having AIDS implies that the sufferer’s immune system is compromised.
MYTH: HIV is a death sentence. TRUTH: There are now many treatments available to help individuals living with HIV.
MYTH: I could get HIV through casual contact from an HIV-positive roommate, friend, relative or colleague. TRUTH: There are five fluids that carry the virus: blood, semen, vaginal fluids, rectal fluids and breast milk. Unless you share these fluids with your HIV-positive acquaintance, you cannot contract the virus from them. HIV is not transmitted through kissing, touching, coughing/sneezing or by sharing food, drinks, dishes, utensils, towels, linens or clothes. HIV cannot be transmitted by sharing a pool, bathtub or toilet seat.
MYTH: If both partners are HIV-positive, they don’t need to use a condom. TRUTH: Different strains of HIV exist. Sharing them could cause complications in treatment. It is thus safer to practice safe sex, both to prevent contracting different strains of HIV or STIs (sexually transmitted infections).

Today Is The Busiest Day For U.S. Plumbers
|

Here's something I hadn't heard before. Perhaps our U.S. members will relate
Many people know the Friday after U.S. Thanksgiving is known as ‘Black Friday’ in retail circles. But did you know it is referred as 'Brown Friday' for plumbers? It is also the busiest day of the year for them. Incoming calls, mostly for kitchen plumbing jobs, will jump 50% over an average Friday according one of the largest full-service commercial plumbing and drain cleaning services.
Plates littered with leftovers find their way to the kitchen sink and often end up being dumped down the garbage disposal. Some of the worst things to put down the drain are pasta, casseroles, turkey or chicken bones, stringy-fibrous vegetables (asparagus, artichokes, carrot skins, celery, potato skins and corn husks) and eggshells.
Additional strain is also put on plumbing systems while people host extra guests which leads to more showers, baths, flushes and perhaps extra loads of laundry.

She stared a.t this powerful, dangerous stranger, whom she had never seen nor met before.
He slowly and concisely listed ‘the’ conditions.
1.She had ‘seventy.two’ hours t.o provide a name.
2. If she said no, the offer would disappear. Forever.
3. And if she said yes, there was no going bac.k. No changing her mind.
It was strictly a once-in-a-lifetime offer. A deal that would change her life. A deal that would certainly change someone else’s. And one that she could not reveal t.o anyone else.
After tonight, regardless of her answer, she would never see him again.
She had no idea how she was going to respond, but realized, it was a deal being offered by evil incarnate
